About Boilers MK
About Boilers MK in a sentence: we install, replace, repair and service gas boilers across Milton Keynes and north Buckinghamshire, and every job is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers. We work on domestic heating only — no commercial contracts, no bathrooms, no general plumbing — because doing one thing across one city is how you get good at the awkward jobs rather than just the easy ones.
What We Do
Our work splits into five areas. Boiler installation covers new systems, replacements and first-time central heating. Combi boiler installation is the most common request and the one most often quoted badly, because it depends on a water main nobody has measured. Boiler replacement takes in the warm air units and back boilers that Milton Keynes has more of than almost anywhere else. Boiler repair keeps us busy from October to March. And boiler servicing, including landlord gas safety records, is the work that prevents most of the rest.
How We Quote
About Boilers MK, the practical part: we survey before we price. That means looking at the existing system, the gas supply, where the flue can legally terminate, and measuring the flow rate at your cold kitchen tap. Those four things determine what will actually work in your property, and none of them can be established over the phone.
You then get a written fixed price listing what is included — the appliance, the flue kit, system cleaning, a magnetic filter, water treatment, controls, commissioning, Building Control notification and warranty registration. If a line is not on it, it is not in the price, and you can compare it properly against anything else you have been sent.
We would rather lose a job at the quoting stage than win it and discover on installation day that the boiler cannot go where everyone assumed. That happens more often in this city than in most, because of the sheer variety of what was built here and when.
Why Milton Keynes Is Not a Standard Market
Two things shape almost everything we do.
The water is very hard — roughly 316 to 320 milligrams per litre of calcium carbonate off the chalk aquifer, well above the national average. That scales the plate heat exchanger in a combi and quietly costs people hot water performance and gas money for years before anything actually fails. We fit a scale reducer on the incoming main as standard, and we check it at every service.
The housing stock is unusually varied. A city designated in 1967 and built outward in phases, wrapped around towns that were already centuries old, produces a genuinely odd mix: Victorian railway terraces in Wolverton, Georgian property in Stony Stratford, London overspill housing in Bletchley, Development Corporation estates with ducted warm air heating, and new build estates from the last twenty years. Each needs a different answer, and a firm that treats them all the same gets a third of them wrong.
About Boilers MK: Our Standards
All gas work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers, and you are welcome to verify any engineer’s registration on the official register before work starts — we would rather you did. Every installation is notified to Building Control, and you receive the Benchmark commissioning record and your warranty registration on completion.
We size boilers to measured demand rather than fitting the largest unit that will go on the wall, we clean systems properly before commissioning a new appliance, and we say when a repair is the better answer than a replacement.
Where We Work
We cover Milton Keynes and the surrounding towns and villages, including Bletchley, Wolverton and New Bradwell, Stony Stratford, Newport Pagnell and Olney and the north Buckinghamshire villages.
